Today, more than ever, the petrochemical industry is focused on improving the reliability of process facility assets. One critical aspect of improved reliability lies in the establishment of effective inspection and risk assessment regimens. INOVx’s inspection solutions using its RealityLINx virtual asset model is making inspection of petrochemical facilities more effective and efficient than ever. In fact, a RealityLINx virtual model provides benefits for inspection personnel throughout the entire life cycle of the facility. RealityLINx models can be derived from either CAD models or laser scans of the as-built equipment or a combination of the two. In the case of new construction, the RealityLINx model can be used to guide the establishment of baseline measurements for the facility through ultrasonic testing.

As inspection procedures need to be developed, once again the RealityLINX model provides an important foundation. Inspection personnel tasked with monitoring pipeline corrosion can place thickness measurement locations (TMLs) directly upon the 3D model. Through the 3D model, redundant TMLs can be quickly identified and eliminated, up to 50% in some cases. In addition, by having a full 3D model available, inspection routes can be planned and optimized. The RealityLINx Asset Virtualization environment also enables inspection personnel to conduct ad hoc queries of the model. These queries can combine attributes of the equipment with operational information and inspection results providing a very powerful tool for analysis. In addition, assets can be grouped and organized into customizable hierarchies that enable analysis of assets according to common attributes such as corrosion damage mechanisms or corrosion circuits. |

| The RealityLINx environment also has the ability to integrate to many of the leading corrosion monitoring and reliability applications, such as Meridium APM, Conam PCMS, Metegrity Visions, Credosoft, Siemens UltraPipe, C3 Amulet Plus, and E2G RBI. This integration enables a variety of solutions that combine the 3D virtual model of RealityLINx with inspection histories or risk predictions. For example, such integration can provide a seamless environment for not only planning inspection routes but also logging inspection results. New TMLs added via the RealityLINx model can be automatically pushed into the inspection measurement tracking application. Likewise, as inspection measurements are taken, these can also be entered into the inspection management package via the RealityLINx model. In addition, ad-hoc queries that combine characteristics of the virtual model with measurements in the inspection management application can be made via RealityLINx. For example, an inspection engineer can query for all pipe that handles a particular product within a given area that also has a corrosion rate of over 4 mm per year. The results of this query can immediately be displayed in a table or with the elements highlighted directly within the 3D model. The inspection solutions using RealityLINx show how RealityLINx and Asset Virtualization are transforming the way in which petrochemical plants are operated and maintained. |
