How it Works
Plant Relocation

The relocation of large process facilities such as refineries, chemical plants or steel plants, is an enormous undertaking.  Thousands of pieces of equipment, piping, vessels, and complex steel structures need to be carefully disassembled, identified and shipped before reassembly in at the new location.  Quite often documentation for this equipment is either non-existent, outdated, or significantly different from the assets as they exist in the field.  Furthermore, after the new facility has been reassembled and is online, the operator of the new plant requires an accurate set of drawings for inspection, maintenance, safety and on-going engineering modifications in the relocated facility.

Engineering precision capture of the facility to be relocated
3D disassembly/reassembly work packages
Integration with scheduling applications for tracking of disassembly/reassembly progress
Documentation to support international import/export requirements
Mark piece enumeration system for the tracking of all piping, equipment, vessels and structural steel elements
Generation of CAD drawings for engineering into the destination site foundation locations
Creation of inspection drawings and as-built documentation for the destination site
Ability to interactively query the virtual model in direct support of relocated assets by status as well as other attributes
Easy tracking of components through customized hierarchies and color coded displays
As a pioneer and leader in the area of engineering precision laser scanning, INOVx works closely with engineering and construction firms, to accurately capture assets in the field in their precise as-is state along with an established numeration system for all process elements.  These laser scanned images form the basis for a catalog driven 3D virtual model of the as-is facility, making use of the INOVx RealityLINx platform.   The model is used to plan detailed disassembly and reassembly work packages which can be integrated to popular scheduling applications such as Primavera and MS Project.  INOVx’s enumeration methodology ensures the assets are tracked and reassembled correctly.  Engineers and planners can interact with the model to take precise measurements for clearances and working space and arrange for the movement of equipment and lifts.  In addition, the model can be used to precisely plan the sequencing of the construction crews during both the disassembly and assembly stages.

When preparing for the new site, engineers can leverage the flexibility of the RealityLINx 3D model to either reconfigure the assets to better fit within the new location, or precisely replicate the unit exactly as it was in its original state.  Once the final configuration has been determined, the engineering precision model can be used to establish tie-in points into the new facility.  In the event of damage or corrosion, the 3D model becomes the basis for the fabrication of new elements.  By having a model that accurately captures the as-is unit, engineering can minimize the amount of construction required to integrate into the new facility.  Through the virtual model, expensive field fabrication is minimized and field rework virtually eliminated.

Once the newly relocated facility is up and running the new facility operator can use the INOVx Asset Virtualization environment to link their model to inspection applications, maintenance systems, and process historians.  This provides a powerful tool for the planning of maintenance, inspection, safety reviews, and environmental compliance.  In addition, the model can be used to generate CAD drawings in a variety of industry leading formats, as well as inspection drawings.

INOVx has a long and successful record of partnering with engineering companies for the capture and modeling of as-built assets for plant revamps, turnarounds and relocation.  INOVx has also worked closely with owner operators to develop these models into Asset Virtualization solutions that transform the daily work processes of personnel in maintenance, inspection and operations.
